What is the primary mission of the organization, and how has it evolved over time?

Achilles is a leading adaptive running organization with the mission to transform the lives of people with disabilities through athletic programs and social connection. We have weekly workouts in parks across the world where we pair people with disabilities with guides to run, walk, and roll to achieve personal goals.

What qualities does the organization value most in its volunteers, and how does it inspire a shared commitment to its mission?

Achilles guides approach volunteering with kindness, service, compassion, and a love for movement.

What unique experiences or skills do volunteers gain through working with your organization?

Volunteers are paired with a range of athletes with a wide range of backgrounds, disabilities, and needs. This diverse experience means that guides learn skills on adaptability and learning how to meet each athlete where they are in their unique athletic journey.

What are some recent achievements or successful aspects that you’re particularly proud of?

Within the NYC metro region chapter locations of Achilles, we are now in all 5 boroughs!

What is your favorite part about working with Achilles?

I am a totally blind athlete and now am the director of NYC metro region for Achilles. It’s great to have both experienced Achilles as an athlete, and now also on the program side.

How would you describe the environment at Achilles?

Achilles is a supportive community of athletes with disabilities and guides. We’re inclusive of everyone regardless of athletic ability, experience, and backgrounds.
